Sadly Im thinking of saying good bye to my 1993 AT :( as I spend more and more time on my xr and hard off roading and the AT just isnt getting out as she should.

My dilema is this :- I live in france and paid over 3000 euros for it a couple of years back from a dealer. Since then because of my off road antics she has picked up a load of minor scuffs and sratches but still only has around 60000kms (not miles) on the clock. She rides well but I'd be lucky to get half of what I paid for her - and in france things take a very long time to sell. So I have been considering (even more sadly) breaking her as in parts (most of which are in g.condition) I maybe able to claw back some of my original outlay.

The question I have is there a big demand for parts in the UK - I would have to drop my prices slightly to make up for P & P. I was thinking of ebay. Would they sell ?

What I dont want to do is sell one or two crital parts and be left with an unsellable bike.

Im just looking for advice and views - please Im not breaking yet and may not do so - so no good asking for parts - if I do decide to do so I will put a post up in the buy and sell section before going to ebay.

cheers

is it bad fueling ?

is it me riding it like a dilbert in the wrong gear for a big single?

if i had to describe it id say it sounded a bit like the cam chain hitting an gengine casing but as soon as you give it more throttle its gone and it doesnt happen in mid to high revs....just very low down

this is the first big single ive ever owned so forgive me if i sound like a moron

Hi All XRVers
Well its been a long time since I've posted anything on here and a lot has happened in my life since the day in 2008 when I road down to the Ace Cafe with Mrs Gromit, BT bloke, Marcin, Stanbloke and others, We had a very memorable ride back taking in the Berko lanes with Mudwiz. I was off to Manila the following morning. I was back in UK in March but by August I was single again as Mrs Gromit had Taken Triumph's slogan literally and "gone her own way" after 25 years of Marriage!
Anyway I still presently have my AT but I have been posted to Canberra in Australia from January next year and can't decide what to do with my beloved AT,
I met up with BT Bloke tonight and he was sowing seeds about me coming to the National. I might surprise him yet. He thought that ATs were never sold by Honda in Australia, but they are sought after as being an ideal machine for the environment. I'd be worried about getting any parts out there and a lack of swapping information first hand with knowledgable XRVers. Are there any Aussie XRVers subscribing to this forum? If so would they please drop me a line and let me know what the XRV scene is like in Eastern Australia especially in ACT.
Give the hassles and cost of shipping, importing and complying with Australian construction regs it may be better to sell up in UK and get something more popular out there. I'll be there three years so could sell it before returning to UK. Any tips would be appreciated.

Does Doglegdon still subscribe ?

I had to drop the bike on Sunday (or get t-boned by a speeding eejit). Usual damage, bent rear brake lever and the plastic TA700 handguard snapped off. Front brake lever ok, bit it and bar end just scratched.

Got home and realised that the bar wasn't straight/level. Turns out the bar holder on the same right side was bent. Seemed strange but I've heard that the use if bar risers does place addition stress on the bar holders due to additional leverage available.

Cost isn't too bad at £20 a part but imagine these cracking off whilst away from home and a simple drop.

Won't be keeping risers on again. Will put up with the shoulder pain.

Hello all, i have fuel driping from the carb over flow pipe, its a very slight drip, and only notice it when parked up on side stand with engine off.was wondering if a sticking choke could cause it.or do i have another problem.the reason why i mention choke,is it tends to be a bit jerky at low revs, below 2000revs and was thinking of doing the choke plungers to hopefuly fix this and smooth out the revs. I would be very gratefull for your help.xrv750r 94 with 44,000miles.

Hi all new boy here,
i know your not going to like what i want to do with an xr but just wanting some advice, i have a 2003 250 xr that i ride off road and green lane which is great fun i have had it about 3 years, i have a suzuki sv650 which i have street fightered, and now want to build a custom hardtail bobber type bike over the winter months and i want to use a xr engine for the power house i nice simple, strong, air cooled, single, very little electrical string, simple like me! i know i will need to build an oil tank of sorts i was thinking of using a larger oil cooler from a oil cooled race engine of sorts.
i intend to get an xr remove the engine and all parts i need then break the rest of the bike and use cbr forks and wheels in the new frame.
anyway enough waffling on from me i cant decide to use a 400 or a 600 so if anyone could help me,
is one stronger or more reliable than the other?
which engine is easier to get spares for?
how much power and torque do both engines have?
i know its a boring question but how much fuel do they use? does the 400 use conciderably less than the 600, i have a set size tank and am thinking about range.
how much does each engine weigh respectivley
i have seen more 400 for sale are they much more common and easier to get hold of?
thanks in advance to anyone that can offer some help and advice on anything or any opinions would be gretafully recieved.
Ollie

As I was bimbling home tonight I passed back and forth beside a gent on what looked like a Meccano bike. It made the Major look grand and impressive. After waving each other in and out of the traffic several times he pulled up alongside me in Brixton, and with a huge grin on his face said, "Don't you just love biking....especially on a day like this?".
I don't remember anything that made it fail. I have taken if off and opened it up expecting to see a bulb but freaked a bit as it is full of electro gizmo gibbons - I don't understand these too well.
So guys and gals what should I try - I am ok with probing inside but don't want to do anything that will damage the unit.

Hi all, it's my first time here, so be gentle ..lol. I went down to the garage tonight to go for a ride on my 83 xl600r. I put in the key,and the neutral light came on, she started first kick, so off i went with the headlight on as usual. After about 10 miles i prepared to take a left turn, i flicked the switch...nothing..no flashing at all. I did a hand signal and took the turn and pulled up. I noticed that the neutral light was now very very dimly on. Headlight was still on and fine....no indicators, no neutral lamp,no tail lamp, and no horn...i decided to turn round and go home. When i got back i checked the battery voltage..2.4 volts.!! So i disconnected it, and it started to recover, eventually to 5.6 volts. MY question is..do you think it's the reg/rectifier? or the alternator?...I'm not brilliant with electrics, but i do have a meter and some test leads/lamps. Whats the best way to test this?..Battery,(recharged) back on and run the bike and check the volts across the battery? All help gratefully recieved, and sorry to ramble..Chris.

Hi everyone, I've been a lurker for a long time now and finally, after years of searching, now own a 94 RD07. Wahoo!!

I've had it for a month or so and am in the midst of getting it in better shape after it sat for about 2 years. I was starting on a valve job for the first time when, as I was unbolting the left radiator, the horizontal mounting piece that holds the left radiator fell off. Its clearly been in bad shape for a while (judging by the rust). My guess is that it received too much pressure from an engine guard in a spill before I bought it.

So, now I need to find someone to weld this puppy back on for me and it got me thinking, should I tear this thing down while I'm at it? Perhaps now is a good time to strip and refinish the frame. There are some rust points here and there. Bike is running well after some sea foam and cable adjustments...but it sat for about two years before I got it. The bike has about 52,000km on it.

At the very least, I could use some advice on what to do to prep the bike for welding this thing back on. Otherwise, I'd like to hear from people who have rebuilt an Africa Twin and if they think it is worth doing. Living in the US means that I need to think pretty far ahead if I embark on this journey. What parts should I order now from Europe so I have everything I need?

Thanks!

Decided that my brake pads were getting pretty low, and didnt want to risk damaging the disc so thought Id re-new. Got cheap "gold" pads for the rear that I fitted a few weeks ago. Seem to be OK.

Ordered original Honda pads for the fronts from David Silver. Started fitting them last night. What should have been a simple job has turned into a complete nightmare. Took me 1 hour to change 1 calliper. Just couldnt get the pads to fit..they eventually did after a lot of swearing and throwing things. And when putting the plastic fork cover on I managed to shear a bolt. So be it - its still held on by 2 other bolts so I can live with this.

Just started the other side. Cant get the plastic fork covers off due to the screws having round (my fault!). But I put this to the side and managed to undo the bolts behind holding the calliper on (will cross the round screw heads when I next need to take the wheel off). Took the small bolt off which then gives access to the allen key bolt that holds the pads to the calliper. Problem is I cant undo this do to the bold being rounded. Was already like this when I got to it, nothing Ive done.

Any ideas how I can get this bolt / screw off?

As I still have approx 2mm on the pads I suppose its not urgent. My other question is can I ride the bike as it is...new pads on 1 calliper and old worn ones on the other?

Only good news - when I first took the bike to pieces when I bought it, I put it back together and realised I had a bolt left over. I now know where it goes...just need to find it again.

AGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH................

While I can understand that an accident on a motorbike runs a higher risk of injury than one in a car I don't think I'd be too impressed watching the police just standby while some scroat took my pride and joy just because he didn't live by ATGATT.

Still I simpathise with the family of this dipstick as he appears to have had a bit of divine justice handed out while taking another bike without a helmet.

I checked out an R100GS PD yesterday.
Sadly much of the aluminium work had corroded slightly.

Worst were the wheel hubs, that were greyish from aluminium oxide.

Is this a common problem for these models?

According to the documents the bike was a 1996 model and had covered 33000 km.

Also the documents stated that the bike was from 1996.
I thought that the last R100GS PD was the "black and crome" classic from 1995, but this one was Red and white. Did BMW produce the R100GS-PD on special order after 1995?

It has decals just like this one:

and not like this one:

I guess the older version is the one with DAKAR in writing, and the newer one is that with PD in writing, or?
